1990 | Start

Martijn started his journey at the age of 18 together with Ivo Kerssemakers, he was still living with his mother at the time, and his mother was willing to give up her slightly larger bedroom for their office. That was in 1990, there was no internet yet and she programmed in Clipper Summer '87 version with Database dBase III Plus, this was the time of WordPefect and Lotus 123. At that time Martijn also taught as a freelancer at Computerij Opleidingen in Zwolle , in various software packages.
After having done many different projects for various SME entrepreneurs, it was time to choose focus.

1993 | Standard Software

It was time to focus, after making various custom packages for various SME entrepreneurs, Martijn came into contact with Van Hoeken Thoes architects. We had developed project administration software for this architectural firm, initially tailor-made, but later this became the standard Assistance Architect package. From this moment on, they started to focus entirely on the architectural sector in the Netherlands and later also the engineering sector.

1995 | Contract with BNA

After a lot of lobbying there was a breakthrough in 1995 and they were recommended by the Association of Dutch Architects (BNA) and later in 1996 by NL Ingenieurs (then the name was still ONRI). Assistance Architect was renamed Assistance AE (Architects & Engineers) a lot was invested in the functionality of the application and in the following years the market share grew to 70%.
